The movie forms part of the Namibia Film Week and will screen on Saturday 04 October 2014, 10:00 at FNCC Cinema, Robert Mugabe Ave 118, Windhoek. AfricAvenir and FNCC proudly present the youth movie: Otelo Burning. Based on true events, Otelo Burning tells the story of three South African teens that escape the turmoil of their township and discover the joy of surfing.
The film consists of young up-and-coming South African actors like Jafta Mamabolo from Generations and includes music from South Africa’s top hip hop artists.
Synopsis:
16 year old Otelo, his good friend New Year and New Year’s younger brother Ntwe leave their crowded home town to visit their friend Tau Modise.  Tau’s mother is a servant at a luxurious beach house, where the four friends quickly take to surfing. When Otelo proves to be a natural on the waves,  Tau grows increasingly resentful of his new pal’s impressive skills. Meanwhile, New Year’s little sister Dezi develops a crush on Otelo that threatens to shatter the group’s already fragile bond.
Awards:
Otelo Burning won 17 international awards e.g. the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Child Actor and Best Cinematography; the Golden Owl Audience Award for Best Film at Cinerama BC Brazil and the Best South African Film Award at the Cape Winelands Film Festival.
