Lawn bowls league in full swing

Mitch Voigts of Rossmund Bowls Club in actionThe national lawn bowls league continued last weekend in Tsumeb, Walvisbay and Swakopmund. A total of 14 encounters took place over two days in the men’s, women’s and mixed categories.
In the men’s league the top three teams all won their recent matches. Log leader Transnamib defeated Tsumeb 29-17 and players from the Oshikoto region lost to Eros 16-20. Transnamib has now 15 points from six rounds, while Eros is third with twelve points.
At the coast Rossmund beat Windhoek Bowling Club (25-13) as well as Windhoek Country Club (17-10) to keep their clean sheet for this season and they are currently in second position on equal points with Transnamib, but has a game in hand.

Walvis Bay based club, Namib Park beat Windhoek Country Club (23-9). However, they subsequently lost against Windhoek Bowling Club (17-29). Also having a game in hand, Namib Park is ranked fourth at the moment.
In the ladies division, Eros Bowling club recorded a 22-11 victory over Tsumeb. Another team from the capital, Windhoek Country Club, is in second position after defeating Namib Park 23-13.
In the final match Tsumeb, the host side, outplayed the highly rated team of Transnamib (26-10) to collect their first points of the season. Windhoek Bowling Club remains rooted to the bottom of the log.
The National League is one of the prestigious events organised by the Namibian Bowls Association. The league is played by all seven clubs on a home and away basis. Each club fields a men’s, ladies and mixed team in the Fours discipline.
The next league round is scheduled for the weekend of 15 & 16 June.
