Dundee takes on golf
Eighty-four golfers competed over 18 holes at the Tsumeb Golf Course. The competition began on a high note as players headed down the fairways using the three-ball-alliance scoring format, and ended with a prize-giving and braai at the facility’s classy clubhouse.
This year a total of N$140,000 was raised through donations from DPMT service providers and suppliers who turned out in large numbers to support the popular event. The day’s proceeds will be used to benefit social responsibility projects and community initiatives in Tsumeb.
Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Vice President and General Manager, Hans Nolte stated in remarks read on his behalf at the prize giving that, “A golf day like this one will never be a success without sponsors and most of all players. Thank you very much for your participation in this event. We are proud to be associated with you.”
Added Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Community Trust Administrator André Strüwig, who officiated the prize giving, “The main purpose of the event is to plough back into the community the income generated by our sponsors. At the end of the day it is the people of Tsumeb who really benefit from the Golf Day. Our corporate value of Community Investment underscores the fact that Dundee cares about the quality of the communities in which we operate,” he said. “We want to make these communities better places than before we arrived on the scene.”
Reinforcing the event with their presence and words of encouragement were Tsumeb Mayor Linekela Shetekela, Deputy Mayor Anton van der Smit, and John Amutenya, recently elected president of the Tsumeb branch of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. All three officials attended the prize giving ceremony.
