The mission of the German basketball expert Peter Schey to Namibia successfully concluded on 31 May.
In a two-week series of clinics in Northern Namibia around 80 coaches, future coaches and teachers participated in Schey’s clinics in Tsumeb, Oshakati and Rundu. 55 were awarded certificates for their achievements. Schey was delighted about the results achieved and especially with the rising number of female participants who formed one third to one half of the participants per clinic.
The main focus of Schey’s project was to implement the new FIBA 3×3 game which is particularly suited for Namibian conditions, due to its easy rules and good practicability. Schey initiated the 3×3 Northern Namibian Basketball League (NNBL). The league will take place from June to August and will conclude with championships at the Tsumeb Copper Festival.
“It was our most successful project so far. The two previous short term projects in 2010 and 2012 as well as the long-term project finally yielded fruit”, Schey summed up his recent experiences. “You can see that Namibian basketball is making a lot of progress and the joint efforts of the 3×3 league seem to be very promising, too. I hope that consequently a Namibian 3×3 championship will take place next year”, concluded Schey.
