The festival is aimed at promoting girls and ladies cricket in Namibia. The schools which participated were Suiderhof Primary, People’s Primary, Emma Hoogenhout, St. Paul’s and Eros Primary.
At the event, Bank Windhoek donated an additional N$30 000 to the development programme of Cricket Namibia which is aimed at developing and promoting women’s participation in cricket within the country.
“Our decision to inject more funds into the development programme of Ladies Cricket in Namibia was as a result of the stellar performance by Namibia’s ladies cricket team at the Africa Ladies Cricket Tournament, which was hosted by the Africa Cricket in December 2011 in Uganda, where a number of countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Tanzania, participated,” said Riaan van Rooyen, head of Corporate Communication and Social Investment at Bank Windhoek.
This additional financial injection is on top of the N$80 000 donated last year towards the same cause. A second festival for the girls is scheduled for 14 April and one for the ladies is scheduled for 21 April 2012. Both events will take place in Windhoek.
