SSC gives big to development

The Social Security Commission (SSC) this week handed over more than N$ 38 million worth of grants to beneficiaries of its Employment and Training Schemes.
 The projects were approved by President Hifikepunye Pohamba in line with the Social Security Act, and are expected to create around 280 jobs and train 1,585 unemployed people of which at least 50% would be permanently employed through active promotion efforts by their various training providers.
In his address at the hand over ceremony in the capital on Tuesday, SSC Executive Officer Kenandei Tjivikua said the SSC Development Fund which was launched in 2011 has already awarded 138 full bursaries and is in the process of awarding 44 more bursaries for 2014.
He said the Development Fund spends about N$2.8m every year on new bursaries. The first group  of beneficiaries completed their studies at the end of 2012. and at least 55% are now gainfully employed.
