Helping Hands

helping-handsThe Helping Hands Soup Kitchen in Okahandja Park, Katutura has been chosen as the beneficiary of N$10 000 from Namibia Breweries, as part of the 2011 Windhoek Lager Ambassador initiative. The soup kitchen  provides meals to 130 people on a daily basis, if funds so permit. Manjo Smith, who was selected as the Windhoek Lager Ambassador for December, as well as her nominator, donated N$5000 each to the charity. Smith, chairman of the Namibian Organic Association (NOA) and first Namibian to be elected to the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM), said she was happy with the choice of charity and the great work they do. “Food is also my main passion and maybe Katrina and I can get together and I can show and teach them how to become self-sufficient thereby feeding themselves and their closest community. That would be a fantastic solution for all.” On her part, Katrina Swarts who runs the charity, said that the donation was a most welcome Christmas gift.
