Shell fuels road safety

Shell handed over traffic equipment to the Namibian Police at the Karibib Roadblock as part of a week-long road safety intervention in the Erongo region. Accompanied by various partners who were in attendance, Shell also conducted public education, encouraging road users to be extra vigilant on the road.
Chief Inspector Tobie Gerber accepted the contribution from Mona-Liza Garises, Shell’s communications manager, on behalf of the outgoing Commander of the Erongo region, Commissioner Festus Shilongo.
Considering road safety as one of its core priorities and having adopted the Karibib Roadblock in 2006, Shell has been a recognised and avid partner and role-player in road safety over the years. Shell also plays a part in trying to reach the objectives of the 2011/2012 Xupifa Eemwenyo campaign. These objectives are increased emergency response services and improved response time, improved targeted law enforcement interventions and the enhancement of awareness on road safety.
Shell reaffirmed their commitment in giving back to the community and meeting stakeholder expectations by donating water and soft drinks for the duration of the campaign, breathalysers for alcohol testing, tables, chairs, torches/flashlights and chairs.

you have, at all times, demonstrated this value. With continued interventions and persistence, we can, reach the hearts and minds of road users, together and save lives,” said Mona-Liza Garises, Shell’s Communications Manager about law-enforcement agents in the Erongo region.
The deputy Minister of Works and Transport, Chief Samuel Ankama who witnessed the ceremony and also participated in conducting public education at the roadblock, commended Shell for its continued support to government, industry and society as a whole.
“Not only am I pleased, but I am also impressed by Shell’s consistent involvement in initiatives of national concern. The passion and commitment of the team is evident by their incessant hands-on approach in assisting the attainment of stakeholder objectives of minimizing road traffic accidents and consequent fatalities,” Ankama said.
He further called on all road users to be cautious and patient on the road, keep to the speed limits and obey traffic rules at all times.
Shell will also conduct public education at the Swakopmund and Walvis Bay roadblocks along with the Motor Vehicle (MVA) Fund over the next three days.
