Chief Human Capital & Corporate Affairs Officer for MTC Tim Ekandjo this week launched, the Tim Ekandjo Lüderitz Secondary School Academic Awards at Lüderitz Secondary School.
This forms part of his initiative not only to motivate the students at the school, but also to change the students’ attitude towards education and compete fairly to be the very best that they can be. Ekandjo urged the students to work hard as the future of the country is in their hands as young leaders. “In Lüderitz, most of our parents are either unemployed, nurses, tea ladies or factory workers and it is your responsibility to break that cycle, and become something better than them. We should not go and join them and work alongside them in the factories, we should strive to realise our dreams by becoming doctors, managing directors, pilots, scientists and factory managers instead of factory workers and start living our own dreams and not the dreams of others” he said.
Top performers from Grade 8-12 will receive cash prizes ranging between N$500 to N$1500 for first, second and third places in their respective grades. Students in the Best Performers category for Commerce, Science and Social Sciences in Grade 11 will each receive a prize of N$1000.
The Best Performers in the Commerce, Science and Social Sciences Grade 12 Category will each receive a prize of N$1200. The Best Sportsman and Sportswoman will receive a prize of N$1500 and the overall Best Student in Grade 12 will receive a brand new laptop to the value of N$3500, and tuition fees at a Namibian institute to the value of N$15000, and a books allowance of N$2500.
