Running for charity

The “Namibia Runs for Charity,” competition will take place for the second consecutive year on 22 September with the aim to once again raise money for charitable purpose.
Last year, the event attracted about 250 athletes, collecting N$52 000 which was dispersed to ten different charity organisations. This year, organiser Selma Iipinge anticipates more people to compete in the competition.
“The idea is that the general public is called to register to run for charity and athletes have to organize personal sponsors in their immediate environment including friends, family and colleagues at work who donate a particular amount of money per lap completed by the runners on a 400 meters athletics track,” he said.
The race will take place at the Katutura Youth Complex (Independence Arena) and will be opened for about 7 hours for athletes to run as many laps as they can.
After closing the track, prizes will be handed over to the runners in categories for most laps completed and for raising the highest amount of money.
The organizing team of the Namibia Runs for Charity is urging sponsors and athletes to be a part of this noble course and help those who are less privileged.
