A full field eagerly departed early morning for the 21-km Old Mutual Victory race held in Oshakati.

The third leg of the Old Mutual Victory Races kicked off in Oshakati last weekend. Despite the chilly weather, a large group of keen athletes arrived early to find the best starting spot in the crowd of 567 marathon hopefuls.
This year, Old Mutual has made available N$510,000 for the race series. Included in this sponsorship are two Sports Development bursaries for learners, worth N$12,000 each. These bursaries will be awarded at the end of the series. Julian Fryman, junior category winner for 2011, used his bursary for his studies at the Polytechnic. The remaining funds will cover his sports training expenses.
Namibia Beverages has once again committed to be the official soft drink sponsor for 2012. “These races are one of many value-driven initiatives undertaken by Old Mutual to address social development needs within our communities” the life insurer said.
