19th Polytechnic Career Fair
Ms Sybil Julius Manager: Retail Advice Centre, Old Mutual handed over a cheque of N$80,000 to the Polytechnic. She said Old Mutual Namibia is honoured to, once again, partner with the Polytechnic in preparing Namibia’s youth to meet future leadership requirements. “This is primarily supported by our social responsibility programme which is based on the philosophy that the world needs talented individuals who can function effectively at a global level.
Prof Errol Tyobeka Advisor to the Rector’s office, spoke on behalf of the Rector, Prof Tjama Tjivikua, saying that the 19th Career Fair is being held at an important stage in the development of the Polytechnic as it is undergoing transformation to become the Namibia University of Science and Technology. Hence as part of the transformation process, they have adopted the theme this year of “Universities as Transformation Agencies in Economies”. Prof Tyobeka also gave a special thank you to the media and said, they make the world go round and without them the world would stop.
Exhibitors supporting the Career Fair expose students to career opportunities and in turn, “further their self-development and understanding of the fruits of their labour”, concluded Ms Julius. Organisations such as Telecom Namibia, the Namibian Defence Force and DebMarine Namibia exhibited at the Career Fair to answer questions from prospective students.
