Independence promise reaches Hardap
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Mariental on Wednesday, Martin Hattingh, the sales manager at Ohorongo Cement, said the donation is not only meant to form part of the Independence celebration but it is also part of the company’s Corporate Social Investment.
“The 14 trucks of cement to the value of more than N$1 million was not only meant to form part of the 25th Independence Celebrations but is also a contribution to the general development of Namibia and its people as a whole,” he said.
According to Hattingh, even though the company is still new in the industry, it strives to contribute to Public Private Partnership and it supports the government’s initiatives to effect change.
“The current focus for Ohorongo is also in line with that of the government, focusing on poverty eradication through job creation,” he added.
Over 15 projects in all eight constituencies of the Hardap Region have been identified and will benefit from this donation. These include the construction of toilets in Schlip, the construction of a fish pond in Aranos and the construction of a social housing project in Rehoboth West.
Thanking Ohorongo Cement for the donation, Hardap Governor Hon. Esme Isaack said cement is one of the most vital commodities in infrastructure development in any given society emphasising that there is no way to build infrastructure without cement.
“I want to provide the guarantee that my office through the Constituency Offices will make sure that the beneficiaries optimally use this donation for its intended purpose.” she said.
