Mining expo returns this May

Veston Malango, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia.

The Chamber of Mines of Namibia’s mining expo makes a return in May this year.  The overwhelming success of the past three biennial mining expos has prompted the chamber to make the event a yearly occasion, explained its Chief Executive Officer, Veston Malango.
The mining conference will be hosted under the banner, Mining Industry: A catalyst for Vision 2030.

Speaking at the launch of the expo this week, Malango said, “the event presents an ideal opportunity to those who wish to network with and within the industry and make face-to-face contacts to identify new business prospects, or enhance existing ones.”
The expo will run the span of two days starting on 20 May 2015 at the Safari Conference Centre. The expo brings companies, suppliers, stakeholders and investors together, showcasing the Namibian mining industry and developments in the mining sector to stakeholders in government, the media, and the general public, Malango explained.
The mining conference will be held on the sidelines of the expo and includes presentations on new projects such as the Otjikoto Gold Mine, the Husab Uranium Mine, and the Tschudi Cooper Mine. The conference will also focus on vital issues such as value addition, power supply, women in mining, mining safety and sessions on the zinc and nuclear fuel industries.
“The 2013 mining expo attracted many visitors and we expect interest to rise significantly this year as the mining industry continues to grow its contribution to the development of Namibian skills and the economy,” Malango remarked. He also drew reference to Namibia’s good standing on the Frasier Institute’s ranking, highlighting the fact that Namibia was deemed the preferred mining destination on the continent.
Bigwigs Namdeb, Rössing and newcomer B2Gold will exhibit at this year’s mining expo. Malango further explained that the expo is an important opportunity for the expanding mining services industry to showcase their businesses, products and services, and to get together with potential clients.
