Footballers on climate awareness drive
Soccer fans will be in for a treat when international soccer players take on Namibian players on 17 March 2012 at the Sam Nujoma Soccer Stadium in Windhoek.
According to Lutz Pfannenstiel, founder and president of Global United, the game will feature players from Europe and Africa.
“Our ‘mixture’ this year is a fantastic one. We invite every single soccer lover to the stadium on 17 March and aim to fill it to capacity with 12 000 fans,” Pfannenstiel said.
The match forms part of the FNB Global United Climate Kick that was launched in Windhoek this month at the Namutoni Primary School in Katutura. The campaign is hosted by First National Bank (FNB) and Global United.
Global United is the first non-profit football club of renowned football celebrities worldwide who commit to sustainable, social climate protection for fighting the increasingly devastating effects of climate change.
Global United FC engages actively in conversations and collaboration with public, industry, business and research bringing the soccer fans closer to the latest of achievements of new, environmentally friendly technology, products and services.
“We love football. We love our planet. Hence, it is the simple message by which we strive to educate, raise awareness, enthusiasm and involvement across soccer fans in the world, the young and the old, across all nations and ethnic backgrounds. Our goal: To get people to realise how important care for Mother Nature and all its climate balancing factors and biodiversity actually is,” Pfannenstiel said.
Humphries said that the Global United climate kick has seen a definite growth since the beginning of the initiative in 2010. Not only in terms of supporters and soccer legends, but also in spreading the message of climate change and the education and awareness creation thereof.
