Eight finalists for the PLATE OF NAMIBIA finals
(Chantel Kesslau), Nadean McFarlane (on behalf of Raj Rallan), Jacqueline Do Rego, Kieran Hayward, Heidi Sudwischer, Jocelyn Fordred, Meraai Kruger and Ndapewa Ithana, the eight finalists for Team Namibia’s PLATE OF NAMIBIA cooking competition to be held at the NAMPOWER Convention Centre
They were selected for their impressive culinary abilities and creative approach to the PLATE OF NAMIBIA Seafood Challenge.
The finalists are in fact amateur cooks, seeing that their occupations range from insurance broker, events manager, to being students or self-employed, and even an air traffic control officer. Contestants were required to submit their uniquely Namibian recipes for a three-course seafood menu using only Team Namibia ingredients.
Each finalist received a N$1000 voucher from Pick’n Pay Namibia to purchase their Team Namibia ingredients for the finals, as well as Team Namibia aprons, recipe books from the Namibian Fish Consumption Promotion Trust, tickets to the Namibia Food and Wine Festival and condiments from Desert Hills.
To highlight Team Namibia’s core principle of UUKUMWE and the strength of working together, this year’s PLATE OF NAMIBIA finalists will cook off in teams and, as added bonus, each team will be assigned a professional chef to mentor and cook with them in the finals.
The winning masterpieces will compete for a share of prizes worth N$65 000 in front of a panel of celebrity judges. Namibians are invited to come and watch the steam rise at the PLATE OF NAMIBIA finals.
