Almost two years after it was expected to be completed, the Otjimuise Fire Station was officially commissioned by Her Worship the Mayor of the City of Windhoek, Agnes Kafula on Thursday. The fire station which cost approximately N$30 million, overshot the construction budget by approximately 40%.

This becames the forth emergency response unit in the City of Windhoek and has been on the drawing table for over ten years. The station provide a quick and easier access to most of the western suburb areas such as Otjomuise and informal settlements behind it, 7de Laan, 8ste Laan, 9de Laan, as well as other western suburbs like Greenwell Matongo and Goreagab, Rocky Crest, Sam Nuyoma Drive at the Daan Viljoen Road,  and Otjomuise Road up to Monte Christo.
The western suburbs in close proximity to Otjimuise have always been serviced from the main fire station along Independence Avenue. At the unveiling, the City cited budget constraints as the main reason for the long delay.
