Schools to reopen in stages over the next three weeks

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture announced that the resumption of face-to-Face teaching will occur over a period of three weeks for all learners below Grade 10, starting on 7 September.

Minister Anna Nghipondoka in a statement this week said that classes will resume despite fears about the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact that the opening of schools might have.

The minister said schools will reopen for Grades 7, 8, and 9 on 7 September with the exception of the Khomas Region. On 14 September classes for Grades 4, 5, and 6 will resume. The Khomas Region will also resume classes for the three grades. The region will also commence with face-to-face teaching of Grades 7, 8, and 9.

Meanwhile, classes for children in the Pre-Primary phase and Grades 1, 2, and 3 will resume on  21 September.

Nghipondoka warned that the delay of the opening of schools will have consequences for many stakeholders and that the parties involved should take cognisance of the fact.
