Several new records were set this past weekend at the sixth Namibian National Target Archery Championships that were held at the DTS Sports field in Windhoek.
Organisers of the national championships said they were happy with the standard of archery shown over the weekend which saw several new records including the impressive new rercord set by Francois Marais in the Compound Men Division, who managed a perfect round over 30m scoring 360/360 with 21 x-tens.
The championships, held courtesy of the generous support from Afro Pumps and Metal Craft, were judged by a world archery judge, Alfredo Lobo dos Neves from South Africa. He was assisted by local archery judge, Rita Schenk.
“Given the ideal shooting conditions it is quite evident that the standard of archery is steadily improving in Namibia after several records were broken in spite of the windy conditions,” organisers said.
After conquering the local front, Marais will now focus his attention at the World Archery Games in Cali, Colombia at the end of this month where his participation is secured with the support of the Namibia National Olympic Committee.
