National cricket team to play in Uganda

The National Women’s Cricket Team this week received national colours at a ceremony held in Windhoek.
The team will participate at the games which will take place from 16 to 20 December in Uganda. Participating countries include Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Tanzania.
“The fact that the Namibian ladies team was invited to participate in Uganda speaks a lot for the team. They are a force to reckon with,” said Marsia Reed, the manager of the team.
The participating teams are expected to arrive in Kampala, Uganda on 15 December.
Bank Windhoek has, for the last two years, supported women’s cricket as a developmental programme among young girls and has made a financial commitment of N$80 000 for 2011.
The money is used for the development of programmes for cricket in Namibia as well as to attract and introduce the game to potential strong players and will assist Cricket Namibia to keep on mining for new talent.
