A major boxing tournament will take place in Windhoek at the beginning of August.
At a press conference held by Warriors Promotion in Windhoek earlier this week, the tournament brokers started with the publicity campaign for their biggest upcoming event slated for 3 August 2013. The organisers also took the time to give the final details for this weekend’s amateur tournament. The tournament is scheduled to take place this Saturday 18 May at the Katutura Community Hall.
“The performing capacity and reputation of Namibian boxers remain one of the outstanding contributing factors that has propelled the placement of Namibia on the world map, despite the youthful statehood of our republic,” stated the press release. Warriors Promotions announced that they are currently organising a boxing bonanza slated for August 3. The night will feature Tommy “Show” Nakashimba and Lukas “The Demolisher” Ndafoluma contesting for the WBF International Featherweight and WBF African Welterweight titles respectively. The main bout will witness Warriors Promotions’ top act Joseph “Smokey” Hilongwa defending his WBF Intercontinental Super Flyweight title against Raul Medina from Argentina. The three title fights are already sanctioned by World Boxing Federation (WBF).
Additionally, the organisers saw it fit to share on the upcoming amateur tournament. “To run the Academy on a sustainable basis, Warriors Promotions is of the opinion that, laying a strong foundation is crucial to this cause. This has prompted us to give more emphasis on amateur boxers.
We would therefore like to inform you that plans are under way to host a development tournament on 18 May 2013 at the Katutura Community Hall. The tournament which will feature amateur boxers from different stables is one of our many initiatives aimed at exposing our amateur boxers and equipping them with the much needed experience.” stated Martin Mbambus, Information and Marketing Officer: Warriors Promotions.
