SIM Career Expo launched

For the third time in a row Sanlam Investment Management Namibia (SIM)will sponsor N$50,000 towards the Careers Expo as well as for additional logistical and material support. Speaking at the launch of Sanlam Investment Management Careers Expo this week, Chief Executive of Sanlam Investment Management, Tega Shiimi ya Shiimi emphasized the importance of company support for such initiatives to help its future leaders.
“Sanlam Investment Management has been a leading sponsor for the past three years and has annually seen the development in terms of the growth of other sponsors and exhibitors as well as the participation of schools,” he said.
Also speaking at the launch Executive Director of the Careers Expo, Abed Erastus expressed his gratitude to SIM for its committed and ongoing support. “We would like to thank Sanlam Investment Management Namibia for their ongoing support not only for the Sanlam Speakers Hall, but for the entire event and our various programmes. Last year, the Careers Expo launched its scholarship programme to provide financial assistance to talented but disadvantaged learners. This year more scholarships were awarded and a Mentorship and Training programme was launched to support students to learn the skills needed to stand out in the job market”. At the launch Shiimi ya Shiimi highlighted other initiatives in which Sanlam has invested in the education sector. “We are and have been involved in the establishment and upgrading of the Accounting Laboratory at the Polytechnic of Namibia, whereby Sanlam spent over N$600,000”.  N$50,000 was donated towards the University of Namibia’s Keetmanshoop Campus and this year three more bursary holders on the Bursary Scheme have been added, which includes for the first time a student from the International University of Management (IUM). Over 4000 learners are expected to attend the Career Expo which takes place as from 28 to 30 May at the Windhoek Country Club. Local exhibitors such as the University of Namibia, the Polytechnic of Namibia, MTC, MVA Fund, Deloitte, SIM, Sanlam, and PriceWaterhouse Coopers as well as a large group of exhibitors from South African Tertiary Institutions who are part of the Cape Career Exhibitors Association, will be present at the expo. The expo also includes a speakers programme boasting professionals from the engineering, medical, architectural, media, construction, arts, finance as well as other business sectors in the country.
