Namibia will host 6 different squash powerhouses from Africa for the All Africa Senior Squash Championships which is scheduled to take place from 19 to 23 February at the Wanderers Sports ground.
According to Nelson Herunga, Vice Chairperson of the Namibian Squash Association, countries participating in the Championships include South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Mauritius, Nigeria as well as first time host Namibia. From the 6 countries participating, there are a total of 10 teams with some countries having 2 teams.  Namibia has 10 players which consist of 6 male and 4 female players.
“To host events of this magnitude is a major step in the right direction, it shows that we are growing the sport to different level. Namibians will be able to watch major squash stars in Namibia and in so doing park interest among young and old to take up the game of squash,” he said.
Namibia is also set to host the junior version of the same championship from the 28 March to 1 April.
Meanwhile, Trustco Group International this week signed a sponsorship agreement to the value of N$1.5 Million with the Namibian Squash Association (NSA) to be used over a period of three years towards squash development.
Trustco Group International first started as a minor sponsor but for the past decade they have invested phenomenal amounts towards squash. The company believes in developing sport amongst the youth in Namibia. They aim to foster a sense of healthy competition, commitment and teamwork amongst youngsters. They believe that these attributes are the groundwork for solid, well balanced adults in the future.
