Windhoek Jazz Festival in November

The Windhoek Jazz Festival was officially launched in Windhoek earlier this week. The chairman of the festival’s management committee, Cllr Matheus Amadhila announced the names of the artists, both local and international, who will grace the stage on 05 November at the Hage Geingob stadium in Olympia.
At the launch, the Mayor, His Worship Cllr Muesee Kazapua underlined the importance of music, saying it can not be overemphasized as it is a way of expressing feelings and emotions. “Its powerful nature allows us to have a common understanding and can unite nations without looking at geographical boundaries. In short, music is being used by individuals to enhance the quality of their lives” he stated.
One of the highlights at the launch was the announcement of the Windhoek Jazz Festival patron Hon. Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture. “We really appreciate her acceptance of this great responsibility” said the mayor.
The Namibian artists to grace the stage at this year’s festival are Big Ben, Fu Jazz Band, Suzy Eises, the Swingers Jazz Band and Chikune. The international artists are Nathi Mankayi, Caiphus Semenya & Letta Mbulu, Roman and Julian Wassefur from Germany and Elisa Rodrigues from Portugal.
The 2016 Windhoek Jazz Festival is organized by the City of Windhoek with the support of its sponsors, Windhoek Lager, Standard Bank Namibia, Air Namibia, 99 FM, Jameson, Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino, and Ad Force. “We would further like to acknowledge the support of the Goethe-Institut Namibia and the Embassy of Portugal in Namibia for the partnership in bringing in the artists” said Amadhila.
The festival will take place on 05 November at the Hage Geingob Stadium. The gates will be open from 15h00. Tickets are available at Computicket outlets countrywide for N$250. Fans are encouraged to buy their tickets well in advance to avoid inconveniences on the day of the event.
