Timeout Beach Volleyball Series 2016 nears
Volleyball fanatics and players are gearing up for the Timeout Beach Volleyball Series which will have five events this year, with the Vita Juice Mixed Grand Slam opening the season. The event will take place on 23 April at DTS Beach Arena, Windhoek.
The other events that will follow include: Tropizone Aqua Kalahari Open, 21 to 22 May at the Tivoli Southern Sky Guest Farm; Word Press Namibia Winter Classic, 25 June at DTS Beach Arena; Interpack King & Queen, 17 September at DTS Beach Arena and lastly the Fabupharm Swakop Masters – 22nd & 23rd September – Mole Beach, Swakopmund
The Timeout Beach Volleyball Series managed to welcome Interpack Consumable Manufacturers back as a loyal sponsor and supporter of beach volleyball in Namibia. In total, Interpack will be sponsoring 3 of the 5 Timeout Beach Volleyball Series 2016 events.
“We are humbled by their support and are looking forward to working with them again this year. Vita Juice has kindly sponsored N$6,000 cash prize money which gives each of the 4 categories an N$1,500 prize money purse,” the organisers said.
The first Timeout Beach Volleyball Series 2016 event, the Vita Juice Mixed Grand Slam, will see the top Namibian beach volleyball athletes taking part this year, including: 2016 Namibian Open Ladies Champions Michaela Boehringer , Kristin Schulz, Men’s Nam Open Champion James Verrinder, 2015 Men’s Tour Champion Jan-Eric Sack, 2015 Ladies Beach Tour Champion Rosi Hennes.
The Mixed Grand Slam event is a gender equal competition. A 2-a-side team will consist of one male & one female player in all categories, including; Experienced Mixed, Social Mixed & Youth Mixed (under 18) and 4-a-side teams will consist of 2 male & 2 females player on court at all times.
The Mixed Grand Slam will be hosted at the DTS Beach Arena under its brand new LED flood light System. The first day & night beach volleyball event for DTS & Namibia. Game will start at 12 noon and the finals should be around 9pm
Meanwhile, the Local Beach Volleyball Tournaments have a new look for 2016. Timeout Beach Volleyball Academy has taken on the tournament organisation of the event under the branding of Timeout Beach Volleyball Series 2016.
