Career
Mia joined the Corporate Communications department of the Namibia Airports Company after graduating with a Bachelor of Honours degree in Journalism and Communication Technology from the Polytechnic of Namibia in 2009.
In 2010, Mia became responsible for the brand and reputation of the Airports Company when she was promoted to Head of Corporate Communications.
She revived the corporate image, brand and reputation through hard-work and a determination to succeed.
Mia is a skilled and talented corporate communications practitioner with over 20 years’ experience in the corporate world. Five of these years show a demonstrated success in improving the reputation, brand and public perception of a firm, accomplished through planning, designing and implementing innovative and creative campaigns and public relations events.
In her quest to always put her best heel forward, she completed the Management Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch in 2013. She received the honours as best student and best group research project of which she was also the group leader.
Leading the research project greatly tested and honed her leadership skills as she was the only female in the team of five. This challenge seemed to be impossible at times, in particular during the storming to norming phase, achievable only through the principles of servant leadership.
Always an immaculate professional and a believer in growing people, Mia used these skills to successfully facilitate a Customer Service workshop for the Namibia Tourism Board.
Finding innovative ways to improve her company’s public image, she introduced the first ever tailor-made staff uniform and Brand Ambassador workshops for frontline staff.
