This week, the Ambassador of Spain, H. E. Mrs. Carmen Díez, announced the launch of an association of former Namibian students in Spain, including recipients of Spanish government bursaries.

The association intends to bring together Namibians who have studied in Spain across all disciplines and levels and will be open to all Spanish-speaking Namibians.
Since the early 1990s, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has awarded several scholarships and bursaries to Namibians, providing them with financial support for their studies undertaken in Spain. Furthermore, over the last two decades many Namibians have elected to study in Spain, obtaining valuable qualifications and exposure to the opportunities presented by educational institutions in Spain. Spanish is one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world with more than 550 million speakers. The Ambassador remarked that as a result of this popularity of the Spanish language, there is an ever growing interest among Namibians to speak Spanish.
The Spanish Embassy requested all Namibian students who wish to maintain their links with Spain to contact the embassy in Windhoek to join the Association. “In this way, the Spanish Embassy intends to provide a social platform for Namibians who have studied in Spain to share their experiences and to continue their association with Spain, with the Spanish language and with the Spanish community in the region. The Spanish Embassy looks forward to hearing from you!
