Cities of Nanjing and Windhoek agree

The City of Windhoek and the Nanjing Peoples’ Municipal Government signed a letter of intent on 16 April. The agreement is set to strengthen the co-operation between the two cities.

His Worship, Councillor Muesee Kazapua, Mayor, City of Windhoek said that doors of the Windhoek-Nanjing relations were opened when the Khomas Regional Council and the Jiangsu Province to which Nanjing is the capital entered into a memorandum of co-operation in 2013.
“In this Letter of Intent, we desire to enter into a memorandum of agreement, which will cover the following areas of co-operation, tourism and cultural, training and development in science and technology in and economic development and trade,” said His Worship.
The mayor of Windhoek said that of particular importance is the willingness of Nanjing’s to offer scholarship to Windhoek citizens in the area of science and technology, a discipline area that is currently serving as Namibia’s training priority focus.
Mr Miao Ruilin, Mayor of Nanjing Municipal Government who was joined by 13 delegates including, Honourable Mr. Xin Shunkang, Ambassador of China to Namibia, said that a solid foundation has been laid between the two Cities.
He suggested that a department to department communication channel should be estab lished between the two Cities. “We can expand this agreement to sports, food processing, real estate and economic and trade co-operation,” he added
The City of Nanjing also donated 100 solar energy products to the City of Windhoek, who are busy identifying possible beneficiaries for onward distribution as part of the Mayoral Outreach Program.
