Swimmers take to the water

The first Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala for 2015 will take place this weekend at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek. Some of the swimmers taking part are F.l.t.r., Philip Seidler, Arthur Loftie-Eaton and Bernard Theron.

Bank Windhoek Gala Long Course is set to take place this weekend, after a long December and January summer vacation. The swimming season will start this weekend with the first Bank Windhoek gala for 2015. The gala will take place at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek. With this being the last gala to qualify for Level 2 and Level 3 galas in South Africa, swimmers will put the extra effort to achieve the qualifying times. Therefore, a high level of swimming is expected.

This is also the last gala before the Bank Windhoek Namibian National Swimming Championships which will be held at the end of February. The championships will serve as a qualifying event for the World Championships to be held in Kazan, Russia in September. Despite various schools hosting their annual athletics meets, the entries for the gala is higher than expected with a total of 106 swimmers taking part. Some of the countries’ top senior and junior swimmers, such as Daniela Lindemeier, Philip Seidler, Zune Weber, Heleni Stergiadis, Mikah Burger and Tiana Esslinger will be participating in this gala. Daniela is the holder of several National long and short course open breaststroke records. The gala will start on Friday, 30 January at 15:00 and will continue on Saturday, at 08:30. The public are invited to come and support the swimmers as they compete in this event.
