Road transport carries logistics

Namibia continues to rely on road transport for imports and exports in and out of the country according to monthly trade figures released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) on Thursday this week.
According to the August trade figures, road transport accounted for 65.2% of total imports transported in that month up from 54.1% in July and 54.76% recorded in the corresponding month in 2012.
In second place was sea transport which accounted for 26.5% of total imports transported, down from 38.7% in the previous month and 39.3% in August last year while air transport accounted for 7.4% of total imports transported up from 6.3% in the previous month and 5.1% in the corresponding period of 2012.
Rail transport accounted for only 0.6 % of total imports transported, down from 0.7% in the previous month.
However, sea transport accounted for the bulk of total exports with a 46.0% share of total exports conveyed compared to the 41.4% recorded for exports transported using road transport. The 46.0% for sea transport was up from the 31.5 % recorded in July, but down from 50.1% in the same month in 2012.
Air transport accounted for 12.6% of total exports transported in August 2013 down from 36.9% one month earlier and 29.8% recorded in the same month of the preceding year.
