Veterans get houses
The beneficiaries of the houses are Gerson Veii, Elias Alfeus, Alfons Ngeama and Elikana Shoombe. Speaking at the handover on behalf of the small group of veterans, Veii thanked the government and urged his fellow beneficiaries to keep their houses in the same condition that they received them in. “ Comrades this is not a payment but a token of appreciation. Let us appreciate what we have been given, let us keep our houses as we got them and be responsible for the maintenance of those houses” he said.
Minister of Veterans Affairs Nickey Iyambo said his ministry is mandated to address the plight of veterans by initiating programmes and projects which address their socio economic needs. Amongst these programmes is the provision of adequate housing either through renovations or construction of new units.
The houses cost the government N$2 million and are situated in Greenwell Matongo suburb in Katutura. This latest donation of the four houses, brings to 85 the number of houses given to war veterans countrywide.
