Cheveners invite potential new candidates for a hike and an application
In the wake of the new Chevening scholars leaving for the United Kingdom to pursue their post-graduate studies, the Chevening alumni decided to do some canvassing for future students by taking potential candidates on a weekend hike.
Some 40 Chevening alumni and their prospects gathered at Farm Godeis for their hike in the Khomas Hochland under their canvassing slogan, “Bring a future Chevener.” The British High Commission in conjunction with the Chevening Alumni Association of Namibia hosted the hike for the alumni and potential Chevening applicants.
The outdoors event provided an opportunity for alumni to meet representatives from the Petrofund, the sponsoring partner to the High Commission that covers many of the costs of a Chevening scholarship. It also served as a networking and teambuilding occasion with two stallwarts of the association, Phanuel Kapaame and Abelene Boer coming up with new ideas to ensure the alumni remain a vibrant group.
Each attending alumnus was asked to bring along a person who has the potential to be a successful future Chevening Scholarship holder. During the hike, the future Cheveners had the opportunity to learn more about studying in the UK and what the scholarship entails.
The Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at UK universities.
The hike was made possible with support from Maerua Superspar and Standard Bank to the Chevening Alumni Project Fund.
The application deadline for the next round of Chevening scholarships is 07 November 2017.
