Theatre-maker invited to Germany on condition she does not cause a “Theater”

Namibian actress and theatre-maker, Nelagoh Shilongoh has been invited by the German Government to attend the annual Theatertreffen in Berlin during May. The German Ambassador, HE Christian Schlage presented her with a letter of invitation earier this week at a small reception at the embassy.

Ms Shilongog will be the German Government’s guest at the 54th Theatertreffen Berlin 2017. The visit takes place from 8 until 14 May 2017 and is part of the Visitors Programme of the German Federal Government.

Together with other theatre critics, festival curators and directors, Mrs. Shilongoh will attend various sessions designed to promote theatre using the success story of Berlin’s theatre as background.

The programme will include visits with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and representatives from the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the theatre and international performance centre at Hebbel am Ufer (HAU), the Maxim Gorki theatre and the Deutsches Theater.

The group will visit the “Theatertreffen” festival as well as selected productions in German theatres. There will be opportunities to network, through workshops, with people from the German theatre scene.
