Gold Paralympian, Shikongo to receive a new home
Twenty-nine year old Paralympian athlete, Ananias Shikongo, who won five medals at the recent 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro is set to become a proud home owner for the first time due to an announcement made by Standard Bank. The N$500 000 construction announcement was made by Standard Bank’s Head of Corporate Social Investment Adv. Sigrid Tjijorokisa at the Disability Sport Namibia Annual Recognition Event for athletes with disabilities in Windhoek last week. The Construction of Shikongo’s new home will start as soon as the Bank has secured a plot of land in Windhoek. Tjijorokisa said “Disability does not mean inability and life is about choices. Ananias was not born blind. Before the age of 7 he lost both his eyes in two separate incidents, but he made a choice not to let his circumstances determine his future. It is because of this kind of courage and determination that Standard Bank would like to recognise and intervene in this young man’s life.” The photograph shows Deputy Minister Youth, Sport and National Service Agnes Tjongarero, Paralympian Ananias Shikongo, Guide Runner Even Tjiuju and Standard Bank’s Head of CSI Adv.
