Agra Retail officially opened their brand new and bigger Agra Hyper Retail Centre in the Lafrenz Industrial Area on 19 August 2015. The whole development, which includes the cost of the land, adds up to an investment of over N$110 million.

Ryno Van der Merwe, Chairman, Agra Board, welcomed the guests to Agra’s stately new home, describing it as their masterpiece deluxe. “I welcomed you to a celebration of perseverance and growth, of trust and confidence, of hard work, good workmanship and dedication and of being proudly Namibian” he said.
Peter Kazmaier, who has been been the Chief Executive Officer of Agra for 20 years, said that after years of planning, searching for the right location, for the right size of the property and the correct design as well as ensuring expansion possibilities for at least five year, they eventually decided on this locality. “Business enterprises like Agra can only take these dramatic investment decisions when there is certainty that the government has the vision of creating and maintaining an environment of peace and stability,” he emphasised.
Kazmaier added that it is important to note that at least 90 new employment positions were created by Agra for staff necessary to operate this new facility. He also announced that Agra will be opening a brand new branch in Rundu early next year which will be branch number 22 in the Agra stable.
“May this Agra branch here at the Agra Hyper be a symbol of our growth and our trust in Namibia’s economy, may it be a shopping paradise and destination for both farmers and the public and may it make a huge difference in this area of Windhoek,” he concluded.
Honourable Tjekero Tweya, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, congratulated Agra on behalf of Mr John Mutorwa, the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, on the impressive development, saying it is proof of their continuous planned growth and visible progress and it gives practical meaning to the words improvement, achievement and success. “It also shows your company’s confidence in investing locally and thereby contributing to achieving government’s vision 2030’s principal objectives, as further elaborated and elucidated through the government’s Industrialization policy and Growth at Home Strategy,” he said. Hon. Tweya also thanked Agra for their contribution to the Directorate of Veterinary Services, to contain the spread of the foot and mouth outbreak. “We know that this is but one of the many ways in which Agra contributes as a socially responsible corporate citizen,” he concluded.
Arnold Klein, General Manager: Retail and Wholesale and newly appointed Chief Executive Officer thanked the Agra board and management, the German Investment and Development Corporation who made the loan available to Agra, the contractor who brought the structure about, the retail suppliers and the Agra staff.
The current stock in the hypermarket and the bulk warehouse amounts to just over N$28 million.
