Best performers in education recognised

Old Mutual, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, hosted the Old Mutual National Education Excellence Awards in the capital late last week. As part of its social responsibility, Old Mutual is committed to investing consistently in education and, in turn, to playing a significant role in improving the overall quality of educational outputs and the expansion of access to education.
According to the managing director of Old Mutual Africa Operations, Johannes !Gawaxab, the Old Mutual awards seek to recognize excellence throughout the education system, and serve to reward the best region in the country; the best overall government school in the country; the best government school in each education region and the overall best higher level and ordinary level grade 12 students.
Individual winners received trophies and cash, while schools received books and appropriate educational equipment so as to contribute to the delivery of quality education at these schools.
“Old Mutual has committed a total of N$1.050 million over a three-year period to this excellence awards scheme and will look to enhance this commitment in various formats in future,” said !Gawaxab
As a further commitment, members of the Old Mutual Namibia Executive Management team will visit and hand over books and equipment to the respective winning schools as part of their annual countrywide branch visits in March.
The event was attended by President Hifikepunye Pohamba, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, Government Officials, teachers, parents, students and other corporate sponsors.
