NFA Galz and Goals cancelled for 2020

NFA – The Namibia Football Association (NFA) this week announced that all the NFA Girls Youth Leagues and Healthy Lifestyle Activities are cancelled for this year.

This decision comes after the management of the NFA Galz & Goals Program had a sit down and outweighed the disadvantages and advantages of starting the league that have most participants that are school going girls and teachers.

“The safety of our girls, coaches, supporters and everyone else involved in the league is our first priority but we should also keep in mind that the school calendar has changed according to the COVID-19 regulations and the NFA Galz & Goals League incorporates the school calendar in their activities and this is among some of the reasons we decided to cancel the 2020 season,” said NFA Galz & Goals Manager Jackie Gertze.

She added that, “We are confident and pro-active in making sure that come 2021 we will be continuing with youth football and healthy lifestyle activities for young girls across all fourteen regions in the country in partnership with UNICEF Namibia.

The NFA Galz & Goals Social Media Platforms will currently be serving as a platform to reach girls with valuable health and life skills education and to build capacity among the girls themselves as peer educators, we urge all the girls to engage on the on-going social media campaigns by sharing content posted on the platforms. All league participants are more than welcome to suggest creative ideas on how its best suitable for the NFA to reach all the girls in all spheres of the country”.

The NFA Galz & Goals officially kicked off in 2009 and the league currently operates in 14 towns in 10 regions in the country and has more than 25,000 girls reached through leagues and football festivals and about 5000 girls participated in the 2019 league.

More than 600 coaches have been trained in Basic Football Coaching, Life Skills and Healthy Style Coaching through this initiative.
