Namibian beers again receive top honours in German quality awards

Windhoek Draught and Windhoek Light again collected gold at a highly respected German industry awards ceremony while Windhoek Lager obtained a silver.

Announcing their outstanding success over the past 14 years in complying with German quality standards, the local brewer, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) said they have been awarded four gold medals and one silver, in the Deutsche Landwirtschaft Gesellschaft Quality evaluation awards.

The 2018 ceremony was held late last year.

Head Brewer, Christian Müller, said “The DLG Quality Evaluation platform is critical as an accredited institution to evaluate and confirm consistency in quality. Our successful participation and outstanding track record at the DLG evaluation simply confirms NBL’s commitment and dedication to producing only top quality Namibian products. Our annual participation is thus extremely important in maintaining the standard we have set – it pushes boundaries, and inspires our brewers to aim for ultimate quality, and of course drives NBL to keep focused on delivering only the best.”

Only beers that are brewed according to the Purity Law of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) are considered for these awards.

The Breweries said one of its latest additions, Tafel LITE, was entered for the first time and collected a gold medal. Other NBL brands that participated are Windhoek Draught (Gold), Windhoek Light (Gold), Tafel Lager (Gold), and Windhoek Lager (Silver).

The Breweries’ Supply Chain Manager, Abrie du Plooy, said “We will continue to create and maintain our amazing experiences through our reliable quality through the ownership and commitment from the NBL team.
