The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation this week launched an exciting “Win a Car” competition. Paid-up TV licence holders stand a chance to win a brand new Ford Figo and many other prizes including cameras, cellphones and Nintendo Wii and Xbox games.
“The aim of the 2013 NBC TV licence Win a Car competition is to encourage NBC viewers and TV  owners to pay their TV licences. The payment of TV licences is critical as the NBC depends on this revenue stream to sustain some of its operations. The transmitter network in Namibia requires continuous maintenance and support, not to mention the high quality programmes the NBC would like to sustain for both television and radio, whilst endeavouring to produce more local content of a high standard.”
Speaking at the launch Chief Commercial Officer of the NBC, Alex Shimuafeni said the NBC is in the process of rolling out its Digital Terrestrial Television DTT project of which the technical launch was already done in December last year. The DTT migration from the analogue system will not only provide more TV channels, but more Namibians will have access to NBC radio and television. He emphasized the importance of the public to pay their TV Licences as it is a legal requirement and can only benefit the TV viewers and ultimately the country as a whole.
“The competition is only open for paid up TV licence holders. You can only qualify to win the weekly prizes and the grand prize if your TV licence is not in arrears and you have settled all outstanding TV licence fees” said Head of Corporate Affairs, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi.
Paid-up TV set owners can also enter the competition by simply SMSing the keyword PAY followed by their new NBC TV licence account number to 5005. Each SMS is charged at N$5. Paid-up TV Licence holders can enter as many times as they wish. Those that keep sending more SMSs stand a bigger chance to win one of the many prizes.
Winners will be determined by means of a draw every second week with the draw for the grand prize scheduled for the beginning of October 2013. The weekly winners will be announced after the 20:00 TV news bulletin from Wednesday to Sunday as well as on all NBC Radio Stations from 17:45 to 18:00. The competition closes on 30 September 2013.
