Sister Namibia active during 16 Days of activism

Sister Namibia, in close co-operation with the American Cultural Centre hosted  Spoken Word, Song Night and Free Your Mind as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women.
On the evening of the event, attending members of the public were asked to bring along a donation of canned food or food items that were then donated to Friendly Haven. Along with the cans of food collected, Sister Namibia approached various pharmacies in Windhoek and friends on their Facebook Page and asked if they were willing to donate some goods for girls and women in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism. Windhoek West pharmacy, Mitzi’s Medicine Depot and Dorado Valley Pharmacy were overwhelmingly generous in their contributions for this cause. Sister Namibia managed to gather an assortment of sanitary and health products for women and girls, that were  also donated to the Friendly Haven Shelter. Patricia Parker, Hugh Ellis and an anonymous contributor all gave cash donations that were used to buy some food, snacks and drinks for the shelter.  As far as it is known, the Friendly Haven Shelter is the only shelter of its kind in the Khomas Region.
 Today the shelter can accommodate up to 18 women and their children. The Friendly Haven Shelter for abused women and their children was established in 1996 as a project of the Ecumenical Social Diaconate Action (ESDA)  for those who need a safe place to stay away from an abusive environment because they believe that everyone has the right to be safe.
