Solo exhibition to be showcased at StArt Gallery

The StArt Art Gallery will be showcase an exhibition, “Shifting Horizons” by local painter Barbar Bohlke on 15 February at 18:00.

This will be Bohlke’s fifth solo exhibition and it will consist of a large and small scale paintings created using natural pigments including Otjize, ash and charcoal.

Bohlke this week, highlighted the challenges of working with Otjize, as it is unpredictable because it resits any painting techniques she has worked with.

“When I use Otjize it feels as if I am working with tangible real material, because it has a different visual and haptic quality to conventional paints like oil or acrylic paints,” she explained.

She said that to achieve the intensity she is aiming for, the pigments are applied in many layers with dry sponges. Meanwhile, Shifting Horizons will be displayed until 8 March and all interested parties are welcome for viewing.
