Windhoek Lager International Pairs launched

Golf RSA has partnered with Namibian Breweries Limited to bring the popular International Pairs tournament to all golf clubs in South Africa.
The Windhoek Lager International Pairs presented by Golf RSA tees off in early 2016 and gives affiliated golfers a chance to play their way into a National Final, hosted in Windhoek.
The top two pairs from the National Final will qualify for an all-expenses paid trip to represent South Africa in the World Final in Spain later this year.
Additionally, the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship, an event that brings together amateur golfers from up to 11 African countries will be incorporated into the National Final in Namibia.
Participation in the Windhoek Lager International Pairs and the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship is set at a once-off entrance fee of R80.
Leading pairs from their home club’s competition qualify to attend a Regional Final from where they stand a chance to play their way into the National Final in June.
Pairs who fail to qualify for the International Pairs National Final still have the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship finals in South Africa and the four divisional winners will qualify to compete in the final in Namibia.
According to Ian Stevenson, global sponsorship and events manager of Namibian Breweries Limited, the International Pairs series has a proud history in South Africa and he sees the event as a perfect fit for Windhoek Lager.
“The game of golf has been played with honour and respect for tradition to the same set of rules since the 15th century,” Stevenson said.
“These values are echoed in Windhoek Lager, which is brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) of 1516.
“Our beers contain only malted, barley, hops and water and the game of golf, like Windhoek Lager, has successfully survived many attempts to change the process. It continues to flourish with its authentic values and traditions, remaining true to itself.
“We pride ourselves on our involvement as the sponsor of the Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship and the addition of the Windhoek Lager International Pairs presented by Golf RSA is another perfect fit for us.”
President of the South African Golf Association Gerhard Conradie was delighted with the partnership, which he sees as a long-term investment into the game to benefit the average club members.
“We are always looking for ways to boost the game for club members and we believe the Windhoek Lager International Pairs offers something new and exciting,” Conradie said.
“At just R80 to enter, both tournaments are accessible for all players and, with a bit of luck, golfers could play their way into the National Finals in Namibia and on to Spain for the World Finals.
“Golf RSA has a responsibility to grow the game in Africa and we are grateful to partner with Windhoek Lager in achieving a greater footprint for the brand and golf in Africa.”
