Banking on Sunday a first in Namibia

Standard Bank Namibia, in its 100th year of existence in the country has started an industry first: Sunday Banking and extended banking hours at its Grove Mall Branch.

Ever since the 18th of January this year, Standard Bank’s Grove Mall has been providing self-service banking on a Sunday from 09:00 to 14:00 – an idea that has thrilled many banking clients.
“Sunday banking is very, very beneficial. We are all rushing and going about our day to day tasks of either picking up children, going to work or shopping.
So coming in here to do my banking on a Sunday is more relaxed and convenient for me,” says Ester Hoveka who’s been a Standard Bank client for 24 years.
“Being able to open a bank account on a Sunday, out of working hours is great because banks can be full most of the times during week days,” said David Mager. “For self-employed people like myself, Sunday banking helps me to do quick transactions and get small change for my business,” added Noble Chipoto, another Standard Bank customer.
Gone are days when banking was only from Mondays to Saturdays. With a dedicated staff complement of 7, the self-service banking is all about allowing clients to do their own banking at the own convenience.
“By opening our branches on Sundays, we not only enable clients to do their personal banking when it suits them, but also further align ourselves to other retailers’ opening hours at the mall,” said Baronice Hans, Standard Bank Namibia’s Head of Personal and Business Banking. Standard Bank Namibia’s banking hours have now been extended throughout the week giving customers more personal time to do what is important to them. Normal banking hours are from Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 16:30, Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00 and Sundays from 09:00 to 14:00.
Standard Bank’s Sunday banking concept follows on the successful roll-out of longer banking hours in November and December last year.
Plans are also underway to roll out the latest self-service banking convenience to Standard Bank’s Oshana Branch located in Oshana Mall in Ongwediva.
