African hair and beauty to be celebrated at third annual expo

The third annual Natural Hair and Beauty Expo is set to once again bring vendors and revelers together to celebrate the diversity in African hair and beauty on 9 September at the IUM Dorado Park Campus.

The expo aims to celebrate and create a culture of appreciating the diversity of Natural African hair and beauty, while striving to mark a very important shift in the way beauty is viewed not only in the country but in Africa as a whole.

The expo will offer a platform that will introduce different topics and activities to those in attendance. With an African-inspired theme, organisers are promising a beautiful setting that will celebrate all things African.

Zodidi Gaseb who is one of the founders and organisers of the event is proud of what the expo has achieved in such a short time.

Three years on, what have been the greatest achievement is that we’ve had an increase in local entrepreneurship, especially from women. A widespread acceptance of natural hair in the workplace and in society in general. More and more discussions that raise awareness of self love and acceptance as well as putting Namibia on the map in terms of relevant trending discussions and events,” Gaseb said.

As usual, vendors will be present to offer shoppers an array of beauty and hair products, food, beverages, home-made organic products, natural products for hair, skin and even beards. Others will bring in international hair care brands, hand made jewelry, local cuisine and so much more. The international brand Wahl will also be showcasing activities on trimming hair and beards for men, and teach men through a Q & A session.

Organisers have also invited bloggers and entrepreneurs with different focus points to document their experiences at the expo from their respective perspectives. Leah Misika, Lynn Komu, Lorna Mabuku as well as Varaa Hambira are expected to be live blogging at the event, giving their followers an insight into their different areas of expertise that range from fashion design, blogging, modeling and entrepreneurship as well as an interactive discussion that touches on different aspects of beauty.

Sponsors, 99FM will be covering the event while Tamasa Trading will indulge the attendees with some wine tasting and My Mobi Car Wash will wash the cars of the guests.

Keeping to the high standards set in previous years, this year is expected to be bigger and better than ever and revelers of all ages can expect to be entertained throughout the day.

We will have a local DJ keeping the beat going, performances by musicians such as Micheal Pulse and Slickartie, poetry, face and body painting, discussions on hair care, skin care, trending topics and activities for the kids,” said Gaseb.

Attendees are also encourage to don African inspired outfits as there will be great prizes to be won.

The expo will take place from 10h00 till 17h00. Tickets are already on sale for N$100 via www.webtickets.com .
