Vroom vroom – Lexus

The Lexus IS 350 launched in South Africa at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show in October. It has just arrived in Namibia and its most outstanding feature is its impressive performance engine.
The latest in an aggressively growing Lexus range, the IS 350 further builds on the brand’s growing performance range which already includes the IS-F and LFA.
Lexus’ powerful sports saloon, the IS-F, revolutionised the brand when it was first introduced, creating a performance foundation for the marque to build on. Derived from the research and development conducted on the Fuji Speedway in Japan, it was the perfect proving ground to engineer the very best driving dynamics and sporting pedigree.
Lexus says its IS 350 is an extension into the performance market, boasting the highest power output of its class (233kW). 0 to 100km/h takes just 5.6 seconds.
With the introduction of the IS 350, Lexus expands its IS range to four models. The IS 250 Sedan, IS 250 Convertible and the IS-F have made up the IS range to date.
The IS 350 shares the same design DNA as the rest of the IS range with a bold front grille and LED daytime running lights creating a dramatic presence. Lower body panelling and taillamps are sleek and race-like, while chrome exhaust finishers complete the look.  The aerodynamic IS slices through the air with a drag coefficient of a mere 0.28. This results in enhanced ride quality at higher speeds, reduced wind noise and improved fuel economy.
As is the norm with Lexus the IS 350 will feature a number comfort and convenience appointments. That means that a host of equipment is available as standard that would otherwise add significant cost to the car on the more traditional options lists of German rivals. Features such as satellite navigation with voice command, Bluetooth, reverse camera with back-guide monitor, Lexus Premium Sound System, keyless entry and ignition, and HID headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights can be expected as standard specification in the IS range. Safety is among the best in class with eight airbags, including driver and passenger knee bags, and Lexus’ acclaimed Vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management system, VDIM.
