Windhoek will have its fair share of rugby action as the Saflands Sevens tournament is set to get into gear on Friday 25 September up to Saturday at the Hage Geingob Stadium in the capital.

Sevens rugby, also known as seven-a-side rugby, is a variant of rugby in which teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15, with shorter matches.
The South African Rugby Union Sevens Academy as well as Zimbabwe, Botswana, Poland, the Bulls and Northern Stars have confirmed their participation in the tournament. The hosts Namibia will also field a Namibian Invitational team to allow more local players exposure to high level sevens, while the South Africans will be taking part under the banner of the SARU Sevens Academy.
The tournament will serve as preparations for the Africa Men’s Sevens Olympic Qualification Tournament in South Africa from 13 November.
Meanwhile, the national finals of the Shoprite & Checkers Namibian Champion Boerewors Competition will take place on Saturday at the 7’s rugby event at the Dr. Hage Geingob Stadium.
