The annual Crayfish Festival has not only augmented the socio-economic development of Lüderitz positively, but has also become a permanent fixture in the socio-cultural sphere of the nation.
Standard Bank, has always thrown its full weight behind the event and this year have recommitted itself with a sponsorship of N$100,000.
“Standard Bank continues to be a long standing partner in Lüderitz through popular events like the Crayfish Festival as we believe this will enhance the economic potential of the town and be of benefit to the exhibiting entrepreneurs,” Standard Bank’s Lüderitz Branch Manager Victoria Wilson said at the fundraising gala dinner of the 11th Lüderitz Crayfish Festival on 23 February.
The annual festival which is hosted in Lüderitz holds a significant place in the bank’s history as it takes place in the town where the first Standard Bank branch was opened in Namibia some 102 years ago.
Since its inception in 2008, the festival has grown from strength to strength, cementing the quiet coastal town as a sought after destination for both domestic and international tourists.
“Not only is the festival a big draw card for tourists and visitors to the town but it also serves to promote local economic development. It is therefore really remarkable to see how the Crayfish Festival and grown over the years and become a much anticipated event. I wish to wholeheartedly thank the Lüderitz Town Council for their continuous commitment to the residents and partnering with us to grow this beautiful town. I am confident that this festival will once again be a great success,” she said.
The festival, coupled with other developments such as Lüderitz Waterfront and the N$15-million seal processing factory, which has provided the much-needed job opportunities geared to fostering local and international trade has ensured that the diamond town is well on its way to economic prosperity for its over 20 000 inhabitants.
“Namibia is our home, we drive her growth and therefore as a Bank we are fully committed to developing the vibrant business sector and the region as a whole,” she concluded.
Namibians from all four corners of the country are urged to support their fellows and attend the festival in their numbers. Great food, entertainment and networking for SME owners will not be in shortage during the festival.
