Flying biker main drawcard at Biltongfees and Auto Show

The gravity defying stunts of Libor Podmol, the Freestyle Motocross world champion, will be one of the main drawcards at next weekend’s entertainment combo, the Biltongfees and Standard Bank’s Auto Show.

The Biltongfees this year celebrates its quarter century having run uninterrupted for 25 years since the Reverend Barnie van der Walt, then minister in the Windhoek congregation of the Dutch Reformed (Hervormde) Church, came up with the brilliant idea to turn one of Namibia’s most famous culinary commodities, into an annual festival.

The rest is history, as they say. Over the previous 24 years, the relentless commitment of the congregation members has turned the Biltongfees into Windhoek’s premier winter family entertainment get-together. It has grow exponentially, outgrowing first the church yard and then later, even the Wanderers sport complex. Eventually, only the new SKW complex in Olympia was big enough to accommodate the 20,000 pairs of feet that enter the gates over the two-day festival.

In 2011, Standard Bank’s Vehicle and Asset Finance division realised the enormous potential of the Biltongfees as a platform to promote the bank’s annual Auto Show, also a winter event. Since then the bank and church have partnered every year, to present Windhoekers with the finest winter entertainment imaginable.

Over the years the emphasis has shifted from biltong only to family entertainment. The Auto Show provides the public with direct access to a large number of motor vehicle dealers while the bank’s asset finance marketers are on site to process applications on the spot. The Biltongfees side offers artists, entertainers, singers, family events and mountains of food and drinks.

“The Standard Bank Auto Show and Biltongfees is a wholesome event that can be enjoyed by the whole family. It caters to car lovers who simply want to revel in their beauty, for those who may be interested in purchasing vehicles, or lovers of biltong who which to stock up. We have however always ensured that it caters for the whole family, which is why we are proud that Motocross World Champion Libor Podmol who will surely wow attendees with his amazing stunts,” Standard Bank’s PR and Communications Manager, Surihe Gaomas-Guchu said.

“Podmol is one of the best Freestyle Motoross riders out there and will give a show to be remembered,” Gaomas-Guchu stressed.

One of the other highlights about the Auto Show this year is that potential buyers can get their pre-approval during the two day event, or better yet drive away with their dream cars.

The Biltongfees and Auto Show are hosted at the SKW sport complex in Windhoek’s Olympia suburb on 30 June and 01 July 2017.
