Lufthansa airlines returns with budget brand

The Lufthansa Group announced its return to Windhoek with budget airline, Eurowings. The new route from Hosea Kutako International Airport to Cologne/Bonn Airport, Germany will commence on 13 July and will operate two weekly direct flights on a Monday and Thursday.

Eurowings in a statement this week said that it is not only showing its continued commitment to linking southern Africa to Germany and Europe’s major tourist and business hubs, but the new routes offer new connecting routes from Namibia to Germany with two weekly flights between Windhoek and Cologne on the Eurowings two-class Airbus A330 aircraft.

The Airbus A330 is Eurowings largest aircraft on their fleet – housing an impressive 310 passengers on board. This addition extends the Lufthansa’s Group vision to provide leisure and business travelers access to memorable experiences and market opportunities.

Holidaymakers in Europe will depart from the airport Cologne / Bonn every Wednesday and Sunday in the evening and arrive in Windhoek in the morning.

The return flights will be on Thursdays and Mondays and flights will take-off is in the late evening and touch-down in Cologne / Bonn in the course of the morning.

“The time was right for us to introduce this route in the light of the growing business and tourism demands for routes to Southern Africa. The Lufthansa Group recognises the importance of connecting more of Southern Africa to the world, and the world to Africa; the group already has 178 weekly frequencies to 36 destinations in 27 countries,” said Andre Schulz, Lufthansa’s Southern Africa General Manager.

“With Namibia, being an important market for us, we plan to grow by providing travellers in Namibia easier and faster access to Germany, Europe, and to all the 255 destinations in 101 countries worldwide that the Lufthansa Group’s airlines serve,” he added.

Flights can also be booked through Lufthansa Group travel agency partners and sales counters at airports.
