Who are the new Women of Excellence?
Nominations for the 2016 Women of Excellence awards opened last week. Standard Bank in collaboration with the Miss Namibia Pageant is searching for excellent women from women-run charity organisations. Nominees are named in one of two categories, the first for women who have contributed greatly to the less privileged and the second for “a spirit of generosity and kindness.”
Any person can nominate a women from his or her community.
“Standard Bank’s main involvement with the Miss Namibia Pageant is our sponsorship for the Women of Excellence initiative,” said Adv. Sigrid Tjijorokisa, the Group Company Secretary and the head of Corporate Social Initiative projects. “Standard Bank supports the development, empowerment and recognition of women in all sectors of society. By contributing financially to the Women of Excellence project the bank is in support of raising awareness of the important role women play in our communities” she said.
Standard Bank launched its fifth search for the Women of Excellence during the crowning event last year. These winners will be announced during the pageant on the 9th of August 2016.
The previous Women of Excellence are Elsa Murangi from the Walvis Bay Child & Family Centre and Patricia Siska Nalisa from the Katima Mulilo Youth Centre, in category B and Carol Semedo from the Nampharm Foundation for Operation Smile, in category A.
“Women of Excellence” nomination forms can be collected at the Standard Bank Head Office in Windhoek or at any Standard Bank branch country wide. The nomination forms can also be down loaded from the Miss Namibia website at www.missnamibia.org.
The bank supports the Women of Excellence awards with an amount of N$100,000.
